There are many, many licensed samples in the marketplace but the most well-known (and lucrative) example is probably Puff Daddy's "I'll Be Missing You" on his No Way Out Album. The sample is from "Every Breath You Take" written by Sting and recorded by the Police (it's available as a CD-single and on the Police's Classics compilation).
