copyright and children

If a child authors a work, I assume there is no issue about the copyright vesting in that person despite their age. But how can the work be assigned to another party? Is this governed by contract law or can the assignment provisions of 204(a) work independently of contract law? Would a parent be considered the child's authorized agent?

Any advice/cases would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
