copyright in comic strip translation?

Hi there,

we came across this web page about copywriting when we were looking for some informations on how to get a copyright. And actually we have a question: what should we do to get a copyright for a translation of a comic strip, and should we try to get the copyright first or find a publisher? also, what informations should we include in a letter asking for a copyright, and what more less should such a letter look like? we'd be greatful if you could help us with that a bit... hoping to hear from you,
