OVERVIEW: This one-day workshop is designed to explore the evolving and complex interrelationship between library services and copyright law, with special attention to the use of new technologies for the variety of digitizing, accessing, and storing functions performed by libraries. The morning will provide participants with a detailed overview of current copyright law, addressing the continued struggles with "old" law and the need to grapple with major new changes brought on by Congress and the courts.

In the afternoon participants will review a series of scenarios intended to raise questions about how libraries and faculty use copyrighted works in the digital environment. These scenarios will help participants explore copyrighted-related issues as they affect such function as electronic reserves, interlibrary loan, creation of web pages, courseware development, archives, and digital library projects.

TARGET AUDIENCE: The workshop is open to librarians, faculty, and other campus staff.

REGISTRATION FEES: Attendance is limited to 60 participants. The registration fee includes resource materials, lunch, and breaks. Prepayment is required.
