The traditional methods that have enforced copyright have been essentially irrelevant for quite some time. The only real change is in the ease of use -- electronic methods for dissemination of textual information has been available since the first network connections, and indeed one of the very first protocols written was to share and disseminate information "in bulk" -- the File Transfer Protocol (FTP).
