American Gothic was created in 1930, but the copyright term depends on whether it was published in that year or some other year. If it was published in 1930, the copyright will last until 2025. I have no doubt the copyright was renewed. The Chicago Art Institute licenses the painting. I recently licensed it for use in a book of mine. The Art Institute website has a permission form you can print out and mail in.
