Regarding the various inquiries in licensing Grant Wood's "American Gothic, here are the facts:
VAGA (for which I am executive director) represents the Estate of Grant Wood. The Art Institute of Chicago owns the painting. Through a unique agreement, VAGA and The Art Institute control rights in the art together. The Art Institute clears all editorial uses (articles about the art or illustrative uses in books) and VAGA clears all commercial uses (advertising, promotion, merchandise, etc.).
VAGA also represents copyrights and related right for a few thousand other American and Foreign artists and estates of artists.
