There is one fact that is not explicit in Mr Panzer's statement.

Was copyright actually secured and registered (and later renewed) as required by the 1909 Act for 'American Gothic', a work frequently published without notice of copyright proprietorship for many years after its creation in 1930. If so, what are the dates of the original and renewed copyright registrations?
