Joel Ankney describes a situation in which two teachers and a group of their students have jointly written a play and he has advised them that copyright should be registered in the names of all (both teachers and students) who contributed to the work.
BUT: You say that the play was created "as part of an elementary school curriculum." Would that not create a work-made-for-hire situation as far as the teachers are concerned (though not the students), since their contributions to the project were made in the course of employment? I.e., wouldn't the school (or the school system), rather than the individual teachers, share with the students in the copyright to the work?
