Perhaps "drafted" was not the correct term, but the first time I was faced with a publishing contract I did hire a lawyer to look it over and suggest modifications that I then negotiated with the publisher. And for those who can't afford a lawyer or who publish frequently, organizations like the National Writers' Union provide contract advice for their members so that they can participate in the creation of the contract for their work. It's not as one-sided as you state here.
