I'd like to discuss a problem I've encountered regarding the use of craft pattern books which do not include a commercial resale permission note, or a request for permission to use patterns, as a disclaimer. Is it assumed that the book's copyright covers the designs inside, as well as the book? Why is there no permission- -use request?
Can these patterns be used for crafts which are sold commercially, as long as credit is given somewhere on the item for the original designer? Basically, how are pattern books handled, as far as design copyrights are concerned?
