Topic recommendations?

I would like to ask the learned professors on this list a favor: I will be taking a course on Early American Legal History next semester, and I'd like to write my paper on something to do with the development of US IP law, preferably somewhat related to copyright. Do any of you have any historical topics that you think might be interesting/fun for me to research and write about? I'd like to use this paper to satisfy my substantial writing requirement, so I'd like to find a topic with some 'meatiness' to it.

Thanks in advance to those of you who are willing to respond, you may send replies to me personally rather than the list.
