I have no first-hand knowledge of this, but I suspect it is because the
Trademark Office Examining Attorney did not believe that the word INSIDE is
descriptive of the goods (computer chips) or a characteristic, feature, or
purpose. We all know that computer chips are customarily located "inside"
computers; but evidently that fact was not enough to make the term
descriptive of computer chips. I'm not troubled by that decision ... though
I am troubled by Intel's reported effort to bar non-competing companies from
using a two-word mark where the second word is INSIDE. I don't think that
the word INSIDE is as strong for that purpose as, say, the words R US.

The article to which Colin refers us is a great read, but although both its subject and this reply are admittedly off-topic, can someone explain how Intel was able to get a federal TM registration for "Intel Inside" without disclaiming as to "Inside" apart from the mark as shown?

Thought readers of this list might relish this article that tells of Intel's efforts to squash a Yoga group's efforts to register the TM "Yoga Inside". Seems Intel think this contravenes their "Intel Inside" trademark. Seems to me , Intel has lost the plot.
