Although Carol's right, this is a trademark question, I wouldn't assume that the answer is that you need permission quite so quickly. I seem to remember a case a few years back involving a t-shirt that imitated the "Budweiser-King of Beers" with "Georgetown-King of Schools" in which the t-shirt was held non-infringing. Anybody remember a cite for that case?
In any event, you should probably talk to an IP attorney and show them your proposed logo rather than rely on advice off a listserv.

Ask the Jr. Mints folks for permission. It's a trademark infringement (and possibly dilution), not copyright.
