I have had to deal with too many clients who had an arguable parody defense but who were hassled anyway (parody Volkswagens come to mind) so my instinct, esp. for kids, is to say get permission. What the licensing companies can do and what they will hassle you for are not necessarily the same thing. It can cost a lot of money to get them off your back.

But yes, Bob's analysis is probably accurate in the most reasonable of all worlds.
