SPADEM went out of business a few years ago. Many of the artists and estates it represented were merged into the other French collecting society, ADAGP. ARS is the U.S. agent for ADAGP.

The ARS represents Renoir (though (any issues pertaining to moral rights aside) I believe his work is in the public domain, as he died in 1919).

Subject: SPADEM query

A colleague writes to me asking what happened to the French rights agency
SPADEM, and how one goes about obtaining rights to publish artists they once represented, in particular images by Renoir.

Can anyone reading this offer any suggestions?
