Author's name is Ed Quillen and title is "Time to give up on copyright law?".

He has a good point. If the authors and artists continue to twist and change copyright law to serve their own interests instead of maintaining the delicate balance between their interests and the public domain, they deserve no respect and support from the public.

(About his point that lawyers being enriched by lawsuits, you may want to take a look at the Sunday August 24, 2003 issue of the comic strip _Non Sequitur_. It can be found at http://www.ucomics.com.)
