Dear Maria ;

I am a Canadian lawyer practicing intellectual property , franchising and distribution among other things . I studied Russian in university and at one time spoke and wrote it fairly fluently , after visiting the old Soviet Union . In 1999 I wrote a paper for the ABA Forum on Franchising on how to enforce a franchise agreement in Russia and China . I feel that it is now outdated but I have attached a copy in case you are interested .

I have been trying for some time to establish a relationship with Russian firms with the ability to practice in my areas , but to date have not had much luck . When I saw your e-mail I thought that I might ask your assistance in this regard . Can you suggest some contacts in Russia ?

You should consult a Russian attorney. Nothing is simple there, as you have already figured out. I am a Russian who lives in the US and is an American attorney.
