Term of Copyright Protection in France in 1900 and in 1950 ??

Greetings,

Does anyone know the term of copyright protection under the copyright laws in France in the years 1900 and 1950.

A colleague of mine in the French department wanted to know whether he could annotate and publish portions of certain works.

Any help would be appreciated.
