There are a number of cultural memes hosted by and propagated most pervasively within so-called Western Democracies over the last century which appear--almost as if by some malicious design--to challenge directly the nature and history of civilisation and even to threaten the future of common human endeavour. That the value of Art to the artist is or should be directly related to the reward to be derived from its "exploitation" is one such.
