Most of the major online bulletin board software (vBulletin, phpBB, etc)
allow administrators or moderators (or anyone granted the appropriate
permissions) to edit posts on the board. Assuming that a particular
site running such software hasn't specifically added something to its
registration agreement that either assigns the copyright for posts to
the site owner/forum administrators or lays out a policy for explicitly
allowing admins to edit the post, could someone who runs a forum be
liable for copyright infringement for creating an unauthorized
derivative work after editing someone's post?
