I know that (c) notices are not required, nonetheless
I advise clients to put them where appropriate to
serve as notice and to protect against those who are
not aware that notice is not required.
Recently a client/friend moved and therefore would like to update all of their (c) notices on packaging to change the address. For new products this is a simple update. For existing packaging this is a nightmare.
One way to make it easier would be if all of the new notices just said "(c) 2005 Company, address." instead of maintaining the original date for each notice. This sort of uniform notice would be the easiest to apply to existing packaging.
Is there any reason not to do this? Is there any reason to go to the extra step of maintaining the original date information?
No responses will be taken as legal advice. I just don't even know what the issues would be in this situation.
Thanks,
Keith
