They are almost certainly covered by copyright law in Australia and probably
NZ, Canada, and the UK as is any photograph.
These countries treat originality as a test for who can sue not whether the work is protected. Because of the functionality and expression merger doctrine, independent creation of a similar image would not infringe but creating copies would.
