Ms. Coleman,

Many of our students are members of the MySpace site and therefore I went to the website to help answer your question as well as pacify my own curiosity.

Upon going to the site, I selected Agreement and read through the user agreement. You will find answers to your questions there although somewhat vague. It states that the agreement is "legal and binding" and end users will be notified by any changes in the actual agreement. Parts 4-6 of the agreement states any copyright information you may need. 4 & 5 deal with ownership of information.

http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/misc/terms.html?z=1&Mytoken=200409171136 47 Each one of these sites have different user agreements so it is my suggestion that people read the agreements carefully especially if they use them as a vehicle to upload personal music or the beginning of what they hope is a publishable book. I found a blog site a while back that stated they owned all content and archived pages if I used their free site, but if I paid for space, I owned it.

I hope this helps

I have a question I'm hoping you can help me with. Since News Corp has acquired MySpace.com, technically (legally), does all user's content (e.g., blogs, music, etc.) belong to News Corp, or does each individual user maintain all original copyrights? There has been some buzz going around, and I wanted to get the straight story. Thanks! Received on Tue Jul 26 2005 - 09:25:30 GMT
