I agree- a moderated list where the spam for people's blogs and other non-copyright related posts are deleted out prior to transmission would be great.

While this list still has great discussions now and then, it seems to have lost a bit of focus. There are many cutting edge copyright issues in the news and facing all of us at work right now- let's get back to discussing them.

IMHO, of course.

A plague o' both your houses.

When lurkers come out solely to rake the muck (and with poor spelling besides--one somehow expects better from an attorney with a master's in library science), it is little wonder that the majority of individuals who
did contribute meaningfully to this list just a few years ago are now gone.

Does anyone know of a listserv/discussion group that actually discusses copyright issues rather than indulging personal vendettas and character assassinations?

I'm so sorry to but(t) in...I usually just lurk, but Sleeping with the Enemy
in a figurative sense, of course, does come to mind.

However, I have often been impressed with the staying power and survival skills of the most scoundrulous of rascals. I've seen men embarrassed on
CNN at eight o'clock show up to parties at nine and act like nothing has happened.

Resilient scoundrals should suprise no one. Those who can muster what it
take to be a scoundral typically can endure the taunts. It's the nature of
the beast. Tongues can wag but Ms. Murray's days are filled with interesting work and her nights, weekends and vacations filled with the luxuries only money can buy.

She will endure this tempest and flourish. The outrage, however, is appropriate.

That is weak, Ms. Friedman.

No one here is demanding that Kay Murray take a vow of chastity and poverty. But in the mother of all copyright class actions on behalf of authors, she jumped from the plaintiff side to the defendant side before the ink on the settlement agreement was even dry. Indeed, it is reasonable to speculate that her new employment deal was in place months ago, with an original expectation that she would skirt controversy because there would be no objections and the case would be wrapped up on July 28.

Nice try at defending the indefensible.
