Also not speaking as a lawyer, these are typical fair uses. (B) is de minimis and (C) is OK as well if the JPEG is essentially a thumbnail (ii.e. Low enough resolution that the text is illegible) relying on the 9th Circuit case permitting thumbnail reproductions in a search engine. But, of course, you could always be sued by some overly litigious author.
