The problem with a 10% rule exists for writing too. How much of War
and Peace is 10%? It could be a number of words but again, it could
be one sentence that says it all. Can you take, for example, "It was
the best of times. It was the worst of times." and claim that it was
only a minor part of A Tale of Two Cities? One paragraph may be the
key to an entire novel.
And aside from Thomas Kincaid, there are other kinds of art industries -- postcards, greeting cards etc. Go to the Licensing Show in NY and there are huge exhibits of people who only represent art and artists. Some of it's fine art; some isn't but it's definitely an industry -- Thomas Kincaid and Wyland aside.
