The Department of Canadian Heritage, as is usual for their closed-door secretive way of making copyright policy, is doing nothing to promote this particular study they have ordered. So I am.

Canadian Heritage has asked me to prepare a report on Canada’s 34 active copyright collectives. Specifically, I have been asked to solicit the views of their members, the copyright owners; and those of their licensees, the copyright users. See the Terms of Reference Page of this Blog. See also the list of copyright collectives sorted by “realm.”
I would expect to receive from members and licensees of the collectives their candid comments on issues and problems they have experienced but I would also hope to get positive feedback regarding what their collective is doing right.
Some of the collectives, notably NRCC and CPCC, are “umbrella” collectives whose members are in turn collectives themselves, so I would not be expecting to hear from these “members.” However, I welcome the comments of members of the AF of M, ACTRA, UDA, CRIA, CIRPA and ADISQ, SODRAC and CMRRA, all of which derive rights from NRCC or CPCC.
And, if you are served by more than one collective, your comments on each of them would be greatly appreciated.
If you are more comfortable giving your comments over the telephone, I would be most pleased to take your call. Just indicate your preference in a short response here and I will call you at the number you leave. Of course, your comments will remain anonymous upon request. If you wish to respond by e-mail, please address your comments to parcraig[_at_]gmail.com. Received on Tue Apr 11 2006 - 20:00:31 GMT
