I distinctly recall, at some point in the past, looking through a set of official D.O.J. statistics on federal litigation that included the number of cases filed, broken down by area of law (antitrust, copyright, patent, tort claims, etc.). I can't remember what it was or where I found it, but i suspect if you poke around the DOJ website you'll find it or something like it.
