Re: Music CDs and "listening program"

I have two ideas for you.

First, I have heard of schools that purchase an iPod and load them with the contents of the school music library. Students then check out this iPod to do their listening assignments rather than checking out the actual CD's. I would assume that this is legal, as long as you have one copy of the CD for each iPod you load with the music.

A simpler option, and one that is exactly what you asked for, is to simply use an iTunes installation with the sharing option turned on. I have done this many times for my own listening assignments with my classes. The music and original CD's are in my office. I rip them into iTunes on my computer and then share the albums over the network. A student goes to the school library and checks out a pair of headphones and sits at a desktop computer. He launches iTunes and listens to the assignments there as it streams from my computer. Totally legal, and much less scary to deal with than the iPod idea.
