I've found the discussion of short phrase/idea protection interesting but I wonder if too much emphasis is placed on the size or length of the work versus the context in which the copyright issue arises. I became interested in that subject a while back
and wrote a law review article on the subject. It's dated but not much has changed regarding short phrase protection. You can download it here.
