Back in 1995, there was something with the cornell law school that
had a very rich database of stuff pertaining to copyright law. I was
able to pull out some results on the number of copyright lawsuits,
the types of plaintiffs, the likelihood of various judgments and the
financial penalties assessed (in those days, as I recall , the
average penalty was around $600,000). It was, as I recall, pretty easy to use.
A link to the former site can be found at http://www.law.cornell.edu/focus/statistics.html though the site itself seems to have moved sometime since 1995 (can you imagine that?)
Armed with the information at the referring page, however, and with google, one might be able to track down its new home. If someone finds it, I'd be interested as well.
