Permissions

        Does anyone have any answers or suggestions for dealing with publishers who do not get back to us or a faculty member when requesting permission to copy or use materials? In the past year I have made several requests directly to the publishers for the faculty, only to have the publisher not respond. When I phoned, they were unable to give me a time at which I might expect an answer, and even when I put a date needed in the letter, they do not respond. It seems to me that this is one area where publishers need to be made aware that people will not bother even attempting to follow the law if the publishers do not do them the courtesy of acknowledging their correspondance.

        Do other academic librarians assist faculty in these sort of endeavors?
