I am interested too. We are scanning slides and storing them electronically  and making the images accessible via the Internet on our system SPIRO. We  do not hold the copyright on the images, making them under Section 107 of the  Copyright Act. They are online because they are part of our online catalog  to our library collection of over 200,000 images. I believe that we are NOT  violating copyright, because this does not cut into anybody's market and  because the system advises people to not use window dumping programs to  download the images because it may be a violation of copyright law. But just  because I believe this is okay doesn't mean that others will agree with  me. By the way, an electronic or hardcopy brochure on how to access SPIRO  is available for the asking. You must have UNIX running X Windows to access  it this visual online public access catalog.
