Lexis gave up and implemented their own. And while West's
argument is slim (and may not possess the requisite requirements
for copyrightability), they have deeper pockets and are obviously
willing to fight the issue.
Heck, the Lexis service didn't even have pages until the customers started demanding them.
Think about this. If West and others didn't organize (paginate and volumize) the text, how would you cite to it?? By line number, paragraph number, etc.???
