online e-reserves IG

Doing a focused conference requires a moderator and an objective. The latter would be, perhaps, to forumulate policies (or simply define issues? or define and answer issues??) relevant to e-reserves .

When I initially polled this and other listservs about ideas, plans, aspirations, etc. concerning electronic reserves, my intention was to set up, via a collection of addresses, a sort of online interest group. This never materialized, in part because I thought CNI was going to set up a real listserv for this subject. I have a collection of something like 75 addresses of parties interested in electronic reserves issues.

I'd love to start or join an online interest group, but don't know the best way to proceed. ARL and CNI are getting more active in Electronic Reserves this year, as are a number of individual sites. Information in this area should be disseminated in the most efficient way possible, since changes and updates are so frequent.

The idea of some time limitation seems sensible, as the entire concept of electronic reserves might be an ephemeral one.

I'm open to suggestions. As for real (as opposed to virtual) conferences, there still might be a discussion at ALA midwinter- if it's still happening and the meeting place is s standing. I am hoping that this will still take place: 2-4 PM on Sunday 2/6 at the Radisson plaza. Speakers include Duane Webster of ARL, Paul Kobulnicky from U. of Pittsburgh, Kay Flowers from Rice University, and possibly Don Bosseau from San Diego State. I will be moderating that discussion, but in view of the number and expertise of the speakers my input will be very moderate indeed.
