Although we may not exactly agree on the theoretical background, I think that Bob's point is very well taken. Under the law as it now stands, the need for some sort of standard release exists. The best solution for the problem might be a general release that one would assent to on joining the list, such release to be overriden by an explicit statement to the that effect on a particular message. Since we do not have such a situation, I agree that those who are aware of the problem should give effect to their intention (and raise the general consciousness of net users) by including a release in their signature.
