While I do not dispute your main arguement that the Internet greatly facilitates infringing activities, I must state that the cookie story is indeed apocryphal. It is an urban legend that has been floating around for at least eight years. I first heard it with Mrs. Fields as the villian baker. I have since heard it in various permutations -- most recently on a weekly American Public Radio program called "Whaddaya Know?"
