I don't think that any of the .sigs on this group are excessive, and apart from helping to put people and their posts in context, they do tend to personalise the medium a bit, too. They're also useful for replying direct, so that you don't clag up the group with messages that are relevant to only one person. I also appreciate the humour and the creativity that goes into some of them. If you want to see some _really_ extravagant .sigs, check out alt.fan.warlord.
