    I understood Mr. Vance's response to mean that people are unlikely to care or to sue in a case such as this one. It might also have been meant to convey an exasperation with a legal system where such questions even have to be asked.

    It seems to me Mr. Vance was entirely within line. And even if he wasn't, a bit of sarcasm (which, again, I didn't detect in his statement) doesn't seem to me the most heinous of sins.
