Taking this thread even farther afield:

The reason I have seen expressed most often for not wanting Net postings re-published is that the original posters don't want to see the *re-publishers* make money from the posters' efforts. Another important factor seems to be that the permission of the poster was not asked by the re-publisher (I think a lot of people would say yes but it annoys them tremendously that they were not asked.) The fact that the original poster wouldn't receive part of any money seems to be far less important. Of course, expressed motivation can often be substantially different from the actual motivation.
