Hopefully this does not open a can of worms, but... We will not make copies of any theses on file (where all theses are kept on reserve) unless we have written consent of the author. We strongly felt any thesis, published or unpublished, was the property of the author and it is not within our rights to reproduce.
They are all on OCLC so we have frequent requests for them. Most authors felt flattered and permitted copying, but some have denied the request. We now request graduate students to sign a copyright waiver which is bound with the book, allowing photocopies for research. Most sign it.
