One of today's messages asked for the list policy on commercial solicitation.
Bare commercial solicitations are not usually posted on this list. However, when a message related to obtaining information about copyright contains pricing and ordering information, I do not automatically reject it even if posted by a vendor. Particularly if the message offers information on where to find something (even a part of a commercial work) offered on the net for free, I post it. But usually, I prevent it from turning into a thread by asking future messages on the subject to be conducted off the list. This last series started while I was moderating under less than ideal conditions and so I could not easily divert message to alternate destinations. I must also admit that I didn't necessarily read all the message posted over the last two to three weeks. I also posted one other similar message today from Spectum Press. Again I would ask that any further inquiries related to this message be sent directly to Spectrum Press.
