I handle the photo reproduction details of our archives and we specify very loudly that a *one time use* is the first time and that we intend it be the only *sanctioned* time. We specify that subsequent printings or subsequent editions will require an renegotiation of the use fee at the time of the subsequent publication. Usually, since the publisher already has the image, we re-license the image for the subsequent use at *half* of the usual use fee as dictated by the status of the project---(we have a sliding price scale based on profit/non-profit press and then adjust based on the number in the printing.)

Our agreement spells out very specifically what *one time use* is.
