A colleague of mine would like to reprint a typescript of an essay written by someone loosely affiliated with the Wordsworth circle. He owns the typescript which was reprinted in slightly altered form in a collection of essays in 1918. Would he have any liability if he issued a reprint of the typescript (his preference), or of the version that appeared in the collection of essays? I should note that there is nothing unusual about the typescript; it is simply related to some highly specialized scholarly work he is doing and would be reprinted as something of interest to Wordsworth scholars.
I'd appreciate any help anyone could offer with this.
