CALL FOR PAPERS Fifth National Conference/First European Conference on Law, Computers and Artificial Intelligence 15-16 April 1996

OVERALL FOCUS - MULTIMEDIA AND LAW The two themes concern the relationship between multimedia and law. The focus of the first theme is on legal issues ranging from legal controls on dissemination of information, intellectual property rights in the disseminated information to securing information sites raised by the use of multimedia. The second theme concentrates on the different ways of communicating legal information - e.g. iconic communication of law, intelligent access to multimedia legal information systems, use of multimedia in legal process, applications of video conferencing.

Papers dealing with the following aspects of multimedia law are invited:

  1. role of visual or image-based legal 'mental-models';
  2. need for legal controls in the dissemination of pornographic, racist and defamatory material;
  3. rights to freedom of information and privacy;
  4. network policing;
  5. intellectual property rights in disseminated information';
  6. social impact and policy considerations;
  7. security problems.

Papers addressing other issues which fall within the overlap areas of law, computer science and artificial intelligence are also welcome.

It is expected that accepted papers will be published in a special issue of Information and Communications Technology Law.

SUBMISSION Papers (hard copy or electronic postscript) of less than 5,000 words in length and including an abstract of less than 200 words should be sent to any of the local Academic Contacts for refereeing by November 30, 1995. Authors will be notified of acceptance by January 5, 1996. Final versions of the paper will be required by February 9, 1996 for inclusion in Proceedings of the Conference. Copyright will be retained by the authors.

CONFERENCE DETAILS Further details of the conference, including a list of Programme Advisory Members will be posted on www by August 1995. A tutorial on www, HTML and multimedia will be provided if there is sufficient demand.
