West Sold to Thomson

Members of the list may wish to be informed that West Publishing was just sold to Thomson Corp. of Toronto for a whopping $4.7-billion (Can), or $3.4-billion(US). Thomson already has "extensive U.S. professional publishing interests" (Globe and Mail, Feb.27, 1996, Report on Business, p.B1) and the deal must be approved by the U.S. Anti-Trust Office. If all is OK, it will go through in mid-1996.
