It seems foolish to grant yellow page directory compilers a copyright in either arrangement (alphabetical) or fact (phone numbers and or addresses). Phone numbers and related information can be excluded by request of the individual to which they pertain. From this it seems to follow that if individuals have control of this information it is theirs and not the phone company's or the directory publishers. Perhaps if a "thin copyright" is developed compilers of directories should pay individuals for the right to include their address and phone number?
