  1. Why not just send email to the authors and request permission?
  2. If small portions are copied, then it is likely fair use.
  3. If the postings are to a discussion group, or bulletin board, I would argue that they are published, like a newsletter, rather than private like person to person correspondence. The latter may get greater protection because of the overlay of privacy interest which is not really present in a bulletin board posting or list posting.
