What is this discussion all about? In my view, partly it is the effort of publishers of public domain material to establish some type of legal protection over information that the copyright law says is not protected. By coupling together things like supposed font copyrights with alleged prohibitions of intermediate copying, among other things these copyright maximalists wish to make it illegal to used an optical scanner and OCR to convert the non-copyrighted information to an electronic form.
